About our College

The Gobinda Basumatary College, Jaraguri is situated at the village called
Jaraguri, Bajugaon near Sankosh river which comes under Gossaigaon
Sub-division of Kokrajhar district, Assam- 783361. The Stone Crusher Plant
named “Basumatary and Sons” lies in the West of the institution at 500
metres, the Sankosh river at a distance of 2.5 km. Raimona National Park is
located at a distance of 21 Km approx in the North. It also shares border with
country of Bhutan which lies in the Eastern Himalayas. Gossaigaon Town lies at
a distance of 18 Km in the East. It is the economic and administrative center of
the area. National Highway, NH- 27 runs in the South at a distance of 6 Km
from the institution.

The Gobinda Basumatary College, Jaraguri was established on 12th
August, 2016 with a aim to promote higher education to economically weaker
section of the people belonging to the different sections of the area. The
college was founded under the Presidentship of Mr. Marjit Basumatary,
Governing Body, Gobinda Basumatary College, Jaraguri. He was the visionary,
social worker and leading driving force of the college. Without his love and
support towards different communities, the local people wouldn’t have
imagined a single college in a remote area like Jaraguri. The college is like a
“boon” for the downtrodden sections of the people who can’t afford the
expenses of their higher education outside. The college aims to produce the
future “Gems of the society”.

At present, the college is affiliated to Bodoland University. From the day
one of its establishment, it thrives to provide equal and holistic peaceful
learning environment to the student communities and the staff.Earlier, it was
started with total eight departments such as- English, Bodo, Assamese, Political
Science, Economics, Education and Logic and Philosophy. From the academic
session 2023-24, the college added Geography and sociology subjects. Again,
from this session 2025-26, keeping in mind the interests and the needs of the
students, Geography and Sociology honours are added in the departments.
Therefore, at present, the college has total ten departments. At its initial stage,
the duration of the course was three years till 2022. But, after the
recommendations of NEP, 2020, the college started its Four-Year
Under-Graduate Programme (FYUGP) since 2023. The college has facilities such
such as Home Examination Centre, Bus Service, Library, Qualified & Trained
Teachers, Self-defense class, Spoken English, Career Counselling Class,
Seminars and Workshops, Extra- curricular Activities, Holistic and Peaceful
Learning Environment, well- equipped Infrastructure, Drinking Water, Canteen,
Wi-Fi, CCTV Surveillance System since 2017.
Again, the college has variety of Cells, such as – Grievance Redressal Cell,
Anti-ragging Cell, Women’s Cell, Digital Learning Cell, Consultancy, Career
Counselling and Placement Cell for the well being of the students, staff and the
college.
